Understanding Pallet Grades
Pallet grading determines the condition, load capacity, and appearance of each unit. Choosing the right grade ensures you get the performance you need at the best possible price. Here is a detailed breakdown of what each grade means and when it is the right choice.
Grade A pallets are in excellent condition with minimal cosmetic wear and full structural integrity. All boards are intact with no cracks, splits, or excessive staining. Stringers are solid with no repairs. These pallets typically have been used only once or twice and look nearly new.
Best For:
- - Retail and point-of-sale display
- - Food and pharmaceutical industries
- - Automated warehouse systems requiring tight tolerances
- - Export shipments where appearance matters
- - High-value or fragile product loads
Grade B pallets are structurally sound with moderate cosmetic wear. They may show some surface staining, minor board discoloration, or light weathering, but all boards and stringers are functional. Some boards may have been replaced during a previous repair cycle but the pallet meets all load capacity specifications.
Best For:
- - General warehousing and distribution
- - One-way shipping where you do not need the pallet back
- - Manufacturing floor and staging areas
- - Standard racking systems
- - Budget-conscious operations with standard loads
Grade C pallets are functional but show significant wear. They may have repaired stringers, multiple replaced boards, noticeable staining, or cosmetic damage that does not affect load-bearing capacity. These pallets have been through several use cycles and repairs but still meet basic operational standards.
Best For:
- - Internal warehouse use and floor storage
- - Low-priority or lightweight shipments
- - Temporary storage and staging
- - Situations where appearance is not a factor
- - Maximum cost savings with acceptable quality
When no standard option fits your requirements, we build custom pallets from scratch. You specify the dimensions, board thickness, wood species, fastener type, load capacity, and any special features (notching, chamfering, heat treatment). Our build team uses new lumber and delivers pallets manufactured to your exact blueprint.
Best For:
- - Non-standard product dimensions
- - Heavy-duty or oversize loads
- - Specialized automated handling systems
- - Export packaging with ISPM-15 treatment included
- - Brand-specific requirements or branded pallets
What Determines Pallet Pricing
Pallet pricing is not one-size-fits-all. Several factors influence the per-unit cost, and understanding them helps you make the most cost-effective decision for your business. We always provide itemized quotes so you can see exactly where your dollars go.
Pallet Grade
Grade A costs more than Grade B, which costs more than Grade C. The better the condition, the higher the price — but even Grade A recycled pallets cost significantly less than brand-new.
Size & Dimensions
Standard 48x40 GMA pallets are the most affordable due to their high availability. Non-standard sizes cost more because they require more sourcing effort or custom construction.
Material Type
Softwood (pine, spruce) pallets are generally less expensive than hardwood (oak, maple). Plastic, composite, and presswood options carry different price structures entirely.
Order Quantity
Volume discounts are applied automatically. The more pallets you order, the lower the per-unit price. Our discount tiers start at 100 units and increase at 250, 500, and 1,000+ units.
Treatment & Certification
Heat-treated (ISPM-15) pallets carry an additional per-unit treatment cost. This includes the heat cycle, IPPC stamping, and treatment certificate documentation.
Delivery Distance
Pickup from our yard is free. Local delivery in Bakersfield is available at competitive flat rates. Extended delivery distances to Fresno, Visalia, Lancaster, and other regional cities are priced based on mileage and load size.
Bulk Discount Tiers
We reward larger orders with automatic volume discounts. These apply to all pallet types and grades. The tiers below show the approximate discount off standard per-unit pricing.
Recurring Order Program
Businesses that order regularly can enroll in our recurring order program for additional savings. We work with you to set a monthly or weekly delivery schedule, lock in pricing for the agreed volume, and guarantee inventory availability so you never face a shortage during peak periods.
- ✓ Locked-in pricing for agreed volume
- ✓ Guaranteed stock availability
- ✓ Priority delivery scheduling
- ✓ Dedicated account manager
- ✓ Flexible terms for seasonal volume changes
Our Quality Inspection Process
Every pallet we sell — whether recycled, repaired, or newly built — goes through a multi-point inspection process before it leaves our yard. This ensures you receive pallets that meet or exceed the grade you ordered and perform reliably in your supply chain.
Structural Integrity Check
Every board and stringer is tested for cracks, splits, and load-bearing capacity. Pallets must support their rated load without deflection beyond tolerance limits.
Dimensional Accuracy
Length, width, and height measurements are verified against standard specs. For customers with automated systems, we verify tolerances to within 1/4 inch on all dimensions.
Fastener Inspection
All nails and screws are checked to ensure they are driven flush, not protruding, and not backing out. Protruding fasteners are a safety hazard and a common cause of product damage.
Surface Condition Review
Boards are inspected for excessive staining, mold, chemical contamination, or pest damage. Pallets for food-grade applications receive an enhanced surface inspection.
Grade Classification
Based on all inspection criteria, each pallet is assigned a final grade (A, B, or C). Pallets that do not meet the minimum standard for the ordered grade are pulled and replaced.
Pre-Shipment Staging
Inspected and graded pallets are staged in our loading area, organized by order. A final count and visual spot-check is performed before loading onto delivery vehicles or customer pickup.

Minimum Orders & Availability
We have no strict minimum order requirement for standard recycled pallets. Whether you need 10 pallets or 10,000, we are happy to serve you. That said, our pricing is most competitive at higher volumes due to the bulk discount structure described above.
For custom-built pallets, we have a minimum order of 25 units. This allows us to set up the build efficiently and keep per-unit costs reasonable. Rush custom orders (fewer than 25 units) can be accommodated on a case-by-case basis with an additional setup charge.
Standard 48x40 GMA pallets in Grades A, B, and C are almost always in stock. We maintain a running inventory of tens of thousands of these units at our facility. Specialty sizes, plastic pallets, and heat-treated pallets are stocked in smaller quantities but are typically available within 24-48 hours.
If you anticipate a large or unusual order, we recommend reaching out a few days in advance so we can confirm availability and stage your pallets for efficient loading or delivery.
Frequently Asked Buying Questions
What is your most popular pallet?
The 48x40 Grade B GMA pallet is our best seller. It offers reliable performance at a significant discount compared to new pallets, making it ideal for general warehousing and shipping.
Can I mix grades in a single order?
Absolutely. Many customers order Grade A pallets for outbound customer shipments and Grade C pallets for internal warehouse use. We can mix and match grades, sizes, and materials in a single delivery.
Do you offer samples before I commit?
Yes. For new customers or new pallet types, we are happy to provide a small sample quantity so you can verify that the grade and dimensions meet your requirements before placing a large order.
How do I know the pallets will fit my racking?
Provide us with your racking specifications and we will verify dimensional compatibility. For customers with automated systems, we can tighten our inspection tolerances to match your equipment requirements.
Can you supply pallets with ISPM-15 stamps?
Yes. We perform heat treatment on-site and can provide ISPM-15 compliant pallets with official IPPC stamps for international shipping. Treatment adds 24-48 hours to the standard timeline.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept checks, ACH bank transfers, credit cards, and cash. Established business accounts with approved credit can be set up on net-30 terms after a credit review.
Can I return pallets that do not meet my specifications?
If any pallets in your order do not match the agreed grade or specifications, we will replace them at no additional cost. Contact us within 48 hours of delivery to initiate a return or replacement.
