Walk into any pallet yard and you'll see pallets in every condition imaginable — from pristine, barely-used units to battered workhorses with character marks on every surface. The industry uses a grading system to categorize these pallets by condition, and choosing the right grade can save you significant money.

Grade A pallets are the best of the recycled lot. They show minimal signs of use — no broken boards, no significant staining, no repairs. They're structurally sound and visually clean. Grade A is appropriate for retail display, food-grade applications, or any situation where appearance matters. Price-wise, Grade A recycled pallets typically cost 60-70% of a comparable new pallet.

Grade B pallets are solid, functional, and slightly more worn than Grade A. They may have minor cosmetic issues — some discoloration, light surface marks, or one repaired board. Structurally, they're just as strong as Grade A. This is the workhorse grade for warehousing, distribution, and manufacturing. Most of our business customers choose Grade B for everyday operations.

Grade C pallets are the economy option. They may have multiple repairs, visible wear, some staining, and cosmetic imperfections. However, every Grade C pallet we sell has been inspected and cleared for structural integrity — it will hold its rated weight and function properly. Grade C is ideal for one-way shipping, internal warehouse use, or any application where appearance is irrelevant.

Beyond the letter grades, there are specialty categories. "Like New" pallets are recycled pallets that were used once or twice and show virtually no wear. "Combo" or "Mixed Grade" loads contain a mix of grades at a blended price — good for businesses that aren't picky about consistency.

Choosing the right grade depends on your use case. Ask yourself: Will the pallet be seen by end customers? Does it need to meet specific industry standards (food safety, export compliance)? Is it for a single shipment or repeated use? Is visual consistency important for your brand?

If you're unsure, start with Grade B. It offers the best balance of quality and value for most applications. If your specific needs require higher quality, move up to Grade A. If cost is the primary driver and appearance doesn't matter, Grade C gets the job done at the lowest price.

We encourage all new customers to visit our yard and see the grades in person. Photos don't do justice to the differences, and seeing actual pallets helps set expectations. We're at 3240 Patton Way in Bakersfield — stop by anytime during business hours.
